Sorbitol

Sorbitol

Sorbitol is a sugar alcohol commonly used as a sugar substitute in various food and pharmaceutical products. It’s known for its sweet taste and lower caloric content compared to regular sugar Produced by hydrogenating glucose derived from starch sources like corn or wheat. In this process, glucose is treated with hydrogen gas and a catalyst under high pressure to convert it into sorbitol. The resulting sorbitol solution is then purified and concentrated. Finally, it is either crystallized into a powder or maintained in liquid form for use in foods, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics.
